2015 is already off to a stunning start, and right out of the gate, the fashion stakes are up for grabs, with some clear front-runners emerging.
One recurring theme designers have embraced is the cinched waist, drawing attention to tiny silhouettes. (Some of us might just have to hold our breaths a little longer than waiting to see who crosses the finish line first!)
Here are five designers to wear to the races for 2015, with elegant waistlines in both long and flouncy skirts as well as a classic wide legged pant:
- Ralph & Russo: There is a distinct retro charm to the look R&R have designed this year. Classic A Line skirts flair elegantly beneath that cinched waistline that is not for the faint hearted. This look is for you if you want to keep things tight in the waist area and embrace the charm of that 50’s look. Longer skirts are pencil thin and the appearance of the cape both attached as well as accessorized keeps the chill off.
- Maticevski: The A Line and cinched waist are also a defined look for Maticevski, however there is a leaning towards the centre slit, accented with large bows or layers of fabric in elegant shortened fronts and longer, puffier backs.
- Ulyana Sergeenko: There seems to be an almost 40’s vibe to the gowns and dresses of Sergeenko with visions of sexy bomb shells painted on the side of B-52’s. This is a refined look that is more demure and the choice of dress lengths from ankle to mid thigh is what modernizes the style. There is also a slightly Asian flare to the motifs and fabrics. Highly sculpted skirts and even a leaning towards elegant pants separate Sergeenko from the rest.
- Scanlan Theodore: Black marks the autumn look for Theodore with a gaunt and glamorous feeling that is understated and simplistic. Feathery weaves show off an elegance of the shoulders or cover up for warmth in the cooling air. A long hair coat is the perfect cover up for autumn and its ebony lustre is startling, yet stylish. Tight fitted cigarette trousers are there if you dare.
The stiletto heel is fashioning feet for autumn, which means you might end up with that “sinking” feeling when you take to the grassed areas at the Autumn racing carnivals. Be certain to pop a pair of Starlettos in your clutch so you can slide them over your high heels and step out confidently.
